Drowning and Heat Stroke




Approach casualty from behind as they are prone to panic


If they are not breathing in the water try and give rescue breaths 'en route'


If they have been in the water AND RESUSITATED get them to hospital for check-up


Beware 'secondary drowning'


A small amount of water can enter the lungs and cause secondary drowning via osmosis


Hypothermia


Dry casualty quickly


Cover lightly – DO NOT OVERHEAT


Warm slowly




Heat Stroke / Exhaustion


Cool casualty slowly


Get them out of the sun
