Diksmuide, the town where we are moored is a fascinating place much dominated by the commemorations for World War 1. These focus on the imposing Ijzer Tower built to recognize the role Flemish people played in the war.

The port on the River Ijser is safe and friendly and club members are proud of its cleanliness and efficiency.

The town itself is interesting built, like others in the region, around a large cobbled square. It is close to the moorings and has a full range of both specialist independents shops and supermarkets. Jan caused chaos in the shops - but you can read about that in

A Barge at Large II.
